This course will have the main objective of building the knowledge necessary to construct a democratic redistributive economy through readings of Marxist, Post-Keynesian, Ecological and mainstream economic critiques and technical texts. Through these readings the class will map out an architecture of both the financial sector and the productive sector of the economy and understand them in relation to one another. The aimed outcome of this understanding is to construct a economic program for a new left political form that wishes to seek a true alternative beyond capitalism.
We will begin the course with a systematic reading of ‘Profiting Without Producing: How Finance Exploits Us All’ by Costas Lapavistas. As the course will only meet two hours per week we plan to read Lapavistas’s text through the month of May and June as it is both a strong contemporary
I am obviously interested in joining this group. I do not have the text yet and will more than likely not be up to speed with the group, however it would be great to be a part of this group in addition to the dad kapital reading group.
